Abstract

Today we are living in an era of globalization - in Giddens' sense of the restriction of national discourse - of consumer barbarism, amoralism, and social inequalities. Education is the only way to cure these social phenomena. Music education in particular can contribute to their solution by teaching the works of modern Greek composers who espouse the ideas of social justice, equality, freedom: Greekness. Research questions: which works in modern Greek art music literature represent the concepts of Greekness and Social Justice? Are they included in the New Curricula for Music; how much educational space do they occupy and what teaching approaches are proposed, taking into account local and global social topicality? Based on what is formulated in the New Curricula for Music in Preschool, Primary and Secondary Education (2023), we will attempt to answer the above questions by methodologically following the music-aesthetical and socio-political interpretive analysis.
