Abstract

Attending the 6th grade (F) in Primary School has a dual aspect in the Music Lesson. On the one hand, the goals outlined in the updated  Curriculum in Music  for Primary School (2023) are fulfilled, and on the other hand, these same goals lay the foundation for future learning in Junior High School (Gymnasium). Among the general objectives of the Music Curriculum in Primary School, the development of students' skills in music composition is emphasized. In fact, in the 3rd-grade workbook, the first exercise, in which the students are asked, based on their level of knowledge in music theory and notation, to compose a small melodic fragment. From this, the following research questions arise: How can the skill of composition be developed in 6th-grade students? Will there be any correlation with the teaching of composition in conservatories or higher education? What educational models should the classroom teacher follow when teaching music composition—individually for each student or for the entire class—and how should the organization of various musical parameters be shared? What should the musical training and skill of a Primary Education Music teacher be to effectively teach a composition model suitable for 6th-grade students? Based on the above research questions, the goal is to develop targeted teaching on various aspects of the composition process, such as melody, and rhythm parameter. Subsequently, an attempt will be made to compose a small melodic fragment using this teaching model. Finally, other aspects of the Music Lesson, such as improvisation, the performance of various musical instruments, ensemble conducting, and the role of the classroom teacher, will be highlighted in this presentation.
