Abstract

This presentation aims to examine how the scope of the present conference "... how different environments play a role in the co-construction of functions and values of music teaching and learning in family, school and the community" is represented through the articles of the annual scientific journal of the Greek Society for Music Education (GSME), "Musical Pedagogics". "Musical Pedagogics" is one of the very few peer-reviewed scientific journals in Greek language, where original articles and studies from the broader field of Music Pedagogy are published (Papalamprou, 2024). From its first issue (2004) up to the most recent one (2024), the journal counts 22 issues and more than 100 scientific articles. As research on music education is a field that is constantly evolving and expanding (Asmus, 2012), the Greek scholarly articles can serve as a base for both researchers and educators who wish to keep abreast of current developments in their field and come into contact with innovative practices and ideas that they can apply to their field of study and practice. Relevant research in international music education journals highlights the criteria for cataloguing and analysing journals in order to connect music education research with everyday teaching practice (Coffman & Coffman, 2023; Silvey, 2019). To catalogue the journal articles, a database was created in the software "Zotero", where the metadata of each article (title, author(s), abstract, keywords) were recorded. In addition, the articles were classified according to the research methodology followed and their thematic content. To provide a thorough overview of the research objectives and development in alignment with the thematic scope of the conference, a comprehensive content analysis of the journal articles was conducted, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Through this work, on the one hand, an organized data source was created that enhances the accessibility of the journal's material for all interested parties, and on the other hand, through the content analysis, an attempt was made to investigate the scientific concerns and progress of the academic research of Greek music educators on the physical, cultural, philosophical, social, technological and digital environments in which music teaching and learning takes place, as reflected in the articles published in the scientific journal of GSME.
