| Abstract |
The teaching and education of children on topics related to Byzantine music and Holy Mountain Athos is the subject of this proposal. More specifically, educational games will be presented, which were created for my postgraduate thesis “ Holy Mountain Athos and Byzantine music in the teaching and education of children” in the postgraduate program “ Studies in the History, Art, Spirituality and Music Tradition of Holy Mountain Athos” which will help children assimilate, understand, and explore these topics through collaborative activities. More specifically, the first introduction of the children to the Monasteries of the Holy Mountain Athos will be through listening and creating puzzles. While listening to the piece "Athos o Emos," by Christos Tsiamoulis, the children will create puzzles with photographs of the twenty Monasteries of Holy Mountain Athos, thereby connecting the auditory experience with visual images, thus enhancing their memory. Then, through crossword puzzles and word searches, the children will discover not only the monasteries but also the names of certain symbols used in Byzantine music. Knowledge games are those that give children the opportunity to "master" knowledge related to the subject. The anagram game is easy, enjoyable, and very helpful for children to understand the symbols, their names, and their functions. The game of "snakes and ladders" is a beautiful and timeless game, which has been adapted and integrated into the teaching of the quantity characters in Byzantine music by creating the dice. Finally, two symbol recognition games of Byzantine notation complete the teaching. The creativity of the children is completed with the use of plasticine and the construction of quantity characters. All of the above educational activities have recently been carried out, and the result was pleasant, fun, and substantial, creating great excitement among the children. |
