Abstract in Greek |
Our project was conducted in the frame of the course of “Songs for children and Tales with songs” and our topic was the “Processing and Presentation of Tales with songs”. The continuous development and usage of technology, as well as its application in the educational procedure led our team to an alternative approach of our topic and to the creation of an audio book, featuring music and sound effects. In particular, we composed three original pieces of music to compliment the plot of the tale. The messages presented in Marie Voigt’s book “Jazz dog” were our inspiration and our guide. The book was nominated in the Children’s Book Award in 2020 for the Younger’s Children Book Category. Specifically, in a magic world, where the cats play jazz music and the dogs play rock music, an ambitious dog decides to make his own way and follow an inner voice that takes him to the special world of jazz music played by cats. Meanwhile, the negative comments and the isolation the dog has to face become vital forces for the fulfillment of its dream. Regarding the creation and production of the audio book, this type of book plays a major role in an active participation in education and it contributes to both the enrichment of the vocabulary of the students and the understanding of deeper meanings (Cahill & Moore, 2017), as well as to the familiarization with the technological means involved in its production. The narration of this tale is vivid and it aims to guide the imagination and to create feelings, so as to enable the children to express their ideas freely. In this way, the students can experience the story with all their senses, through their active participation in the rhythmical or vocal improvisation, the creation of lyrics and the processing of music creations (Theodoridis, 2020). Last, music in this tale becomes the means of expression and power, since through it the value of “unity” is presented. Through the combination of music and speech, the hero tries to focus on equality and social integration, in an attempt to stop racism and stereotypes-issues that affect today’s societies. The aforementioned issues are the target of music. As Etzioni et. al. put it, music lessons offer unique opportunities to the students that enable them to understand, to be familiar with and to embrace fundamental human values, such as dedication to your work, collectivity, freedom of expression, faith to humanity and the need for a peaceful world (as mentioned in Kokkidou, 2015). |
